Cloverdale is a town with a lively history. The town was “Markleville” after R. B. Markle who, in 1856 purchased 759 acres out a Mexican land grant. In 1859 James Kleiser purchased the current site from Mr. Markle and laid out the town. Cloverdale was incorporated in 1872. In 1878, Cloverdale had railroad service three times a day from San Francisco. The folks of the town seem to look for new ways to celebrate. The Old Time Fiddle Contest, PTA Spaghetti Dinner, Fish Hatchery Tours, Saturday Morning Wildflower Walk, Farmer’s Markets, Auto shows, Music events, Pet parades, and for over a hundred years the Cloverdale Citrus Fair, and much more.
